VISITOR QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

When does the church service start?
The music starts a little before 11 AM.  It's ok to come in late, or come in a little early and chat and introduce yourself.  You are also welcome to arrive earlier for the Forum.  We love your presence, no matter when you arrive.

Where is the service held?
The service is located in our upper floor sanctuary.  It's a unique space with an indoor/outdoor design.  To reach the Sanctuary, climb the steps or proceed to the elevator in the back.

What do I wear?
There is no typical dress at First Congregational Church.  Some people dress in their "Sunday best" while others are casual.  We love your presence, no matter how you are dressed.

What kinds of people are at the worship service?
The types of people run the gamut of San Francisco's diversity.  We have people from many backgrounds, culturals, races, sexual orientations and ages.  You will find a wide variety of people, who celebrate each others' unique place in life.

What is the worship style?
Generally, the worship style is "traditional Protestant".   Our music program features a variety of music genres on any given week -- from baroque and other classical  -- to modern songs that may even include jazz, rock and country music.  We have a guest preacher at least once a month, which also adds some variety to the style and energy of the service.

What kinds of participation will I be required to do?
The nature of the worship service is for all to participate, but you have a choice whether or not to participate in something specific.  We have hymn singing, responsive readings, requests for dedicated prayers, and offering collections during the service.  We share communion (bread and grape juice) on the first Sunday of the month; all are welcome to share but participation is not mandatory.
